Replaces "Basic Autosomal DNA"

Welcome to the course for Applied Autosomal DNA 201. We will be working with your FTDNA Family Finder results as well as 23andme and AncestryDNA information. There are assignments to complete each week using your own data. You should be able to understand your results and be well on your way in your search by the end of the class.

Please use the forum to ask questions of other students and the instructor Please answer a question if you can. We all learn from each other.

Our colleagues are working hard to provide tools and documentation for us and the companies are trying to improve their presentation of data. This means that our sources are always changing and sometimes the previews may be slightly different from what you come across. We do our best to keep up but it does move fast.

Please check the files below for additional instructions.

Welcome to the course for Applied Autosomal DNA.  We will be working with your AncestryDNA, FTDNA Family Finder results as well as 23andme information.

This is a course designed to help people get started using Autosomal DNA results to look for birth parents or to solve genealogy roadblocks.

Lessons are posted once a week for the student to work with in a step-by-step format. An online forum is available for each lesson to ask questions and make suggestions.

Knowing basic Excel or spreadsheet skills would be most helpful.  We highly recommend that anyone taking this class know the basics of Excel as well as working with computers and files. We support Windows and Mac systems; other operating systems are not supported, though the student will be able to use most of the material in other ways.  Knowing how to download materials from this class, how to save and rename files, how to set up folders in directories, how to work with computer files is essential, as this is not a course in basic computer skills.

**** Please Note: Those with Ashkenazi Jewish heritage will require other workarounds that what we may or may not be able to provide.  Analyses and assignments from the lessons may not be workable.  If you wish to focus on a non-Ashkenazi Jewish line, you will be able to complete assignments.
